The Journey Within
How do you bridge the gap between what your priest wants you to hear and believe, and what you know in your heart is the right path for you?
My own, personal journey began with questioning the doctrine contained within the Nicene Creed and concluded with discovery of the Divine Spirit within me and within all living things.
I believe that this is a similar recognition that Jesus experienced following his baptism and time in the desert.
It led to his three years of service, culminating in his being put to death.
The scholars discussed in this book (Morwood, Borg, Chittister, Rohr, Crossan, Spong, Steindle-Rast, Stella, and others) seem to be of universal opinion that our Creedal “truths” are parables and not literally true.
Their true meanings lie much deeper, all relating to recognition of the Divine Spirit within all of us.
This is what Jesus taught:
Behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
(Luke 17:21)
